NOTTOWAY COUNTY, Va. (PIX11) – A Virginia mom was brought to tears by the generosity of her son, who spotted a man with a walker struggling to clear snow from his driveway and – without hesitation – stepped in to help.
Teresa Adams and her son Tommy were driving to their home in Nottoway County, Va., when they drove past an older man shoveling his driveway. He looked like he was having trouble with a shovel in one hand and a walker in the other.
“Tommy said, ‘Mama, stop the car,’” Teresa Adams recalled. “I got scared and asked, ‘What’s wrong?’”
Tommy said he saw the man and that he wanted to help him. So Adams stopped the car. Her son jumped out, walked up to the man and asked him for the shovel.
“He looked surprised,” Adams said. “I was so proud, I started to cry.”
Adams took a photo of her son shoveling the snow and shared it with PIX11 News’ sister station WTVR CBS 6 News. Since then, the tale of Tommy’s good deed has been making the rounds.
“I try to do good for the elderly because one day I may need help, too,” he said.
Not only that, Tommy said it was just the right thing to do.
“He looked relieved. He looked tired,” Tommy said of the man. “I told him to get back into his car because it was cold. Other people who saw him in the snow should have had the decency to stop.”
It took Tommy about 15 minutes to clear the driveway, a task that undoubtedly would have taken the man much longer to complete.
“He said, ‘God bless you. The world needs more people like you,’” Tommy said.
