NYPD finds marijuana, ecstasy and thousands in cash at Queens day care center

WOODHAVEN, Queens (PIX11) -- Two men were arrested Thursday for allegedly selling drugs from the basement of a daycare.

NYPD reports the men were selling drugs out of the basement below "My Precious Moments" Daycare. The building is also situated less than 1,500 feet away from two Catholic elementary schools.

Michael Gomez, 24, was arraigned Thursday, charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia, fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, fourth-degree criminal sale of marihuana and endangering the welfare of a child.

His partner, 23-year-old Selestino Rodriguez was also arraigned, charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia, fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana and endangering the welfare of a child.

On Tuesday, an undercover cop visited the building on 88th St. to receive four zip lock bags of marijuana and MDMA.

The officer reported seeing children less than 17 years old coming in and out of Gomez’s residence. Just upstairs, “My Precious Moments” daycare was being run by Rodriguez’s mother. Down the block, two schools served students from pre-K to eighth grade.

On Thursday morning, police allegedly recovered marijuana, 7 ounces of MDMA, $2,438 in cash at the building.

The two will be back in court March 9. A conviction can bring up to 2.5 years in prison each.
