HOUSTON, Texas (PIX11) — After turning 40 and not finding “the one,” a Texas woman decided she would “marry” herself.

Yasmin Eleby hosted an elaborate ceremony with family and friends in January at the Houston Museum of African American Culture.

Eleby says the wedding was a “celebration of love, and of life.”

One of Eleby’s sisters, who is a minister, helped her say her vows. Her other sisters also served as bridesmaids.

She described the ceremony as “spiritual” as marrying yourself isn’t legal in the US.

“I want to encourage each of you to spread your wings and fly! You are not too old and it’s not too late to try something different, learn a new skill, travel to exciting places, etc….Don’t be afraid to take risks,” she said in a Facebook post.

Eleby plans on traveling for her “honeymoon.”
