CONWAY, S.C. (PIX11) — A man in South Carolina accused of raping his nephew’s girlfriend Thursday was brutally beaten by his nephew before the police even arrived.

WIS reported that Conway Police found the mangled 52-year-old William Mattson at the Highway 905 residence around 12:57 a.m. after the assault.

His mugshot clearly shows what happened when the victim’s boyfriend, who is also the suspect’s nephew, found him raping the girl.

The nephew apparently found the suspect in a bedroom on top of his girlfriend. Police say the boyfriend then started striking the suspect with his fist and drove him from the house to the front lawn, according to myrtlebeachonline.com.

Police say the boyfriend was “acting in defense for the victim.” He has not been charged.

Mattson was charged with criminal conduct and taken to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
