ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico (PIX11) — A 49-year-old woman is accused of choking her granddaughter while holiday shopping Sunday.

Diana Elena Hendren was arrested after an employee at J.C. Penney overheard a child screaming “don’t choke me,” KOAT reported. Hendren later told officials she became angry when her granddaughter dropped her money.

The girl was taken to the hospital to be examined. Hendren was released from Bernalillo County Detention Center Monday and now faces child abuse charges.
