WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. (PIX11) — A family got much more than they bargained for after they bought a couch on Craigslist.
The Johns family thought they found a good deal when they bought the couch for $225.
But the good deal turned out to be too good to be true.
After about a week Katie Johns and her family discovered small red patches on their skin. The doctor said the rash was likely from bed bugs.
“When I feel a tickle on my arm, like maybe the hair on my arm moves or I have a little itchy spot, I immediately think that I have a bug crawling on me,” Katie Johns told WISTV.
The family said the $225 piece of furniture has cost them nearly $3,000 in extermination fees.
Johns said she hopes her story is a warning to others and is furious at the thought of the seller continuing to auction off furniture contaminated with bed bugs.
