Long Island motel fire kills 56-year-old man

NORTH AMITYVILLE, Long Island (PIX11) -- A fire at a Long Island motel killed a 56-year-old man early Sunday morning, police said.

Officers responded to a 911 call at the Sayonara Motel on 831 Broadway around 5:35 a.m. Kevin Furey was overcome by the fire was staying on a room on the second floor and was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Bethpage, where he was pronounced dead.

The fire started in a different second-floor room and does not appear to be criminal, according to officials. The investigation is continuing.
