HARRINGTON, Del. (PIX11) — A 17-year-old boy is accused of killing his father with a crossbow to avoid getting in trouble for skipping class.
Seth H. Ramsey was arrested Thursday after Harrington police officers stopped by their Park Brown home on a report of a check on the well-being.
Coworkers of 41-year-old Todd E. Ramsey told police the man did not show up to work for a couple of days and became concerned.
Upon arrival to the Ramsey home, police spoke to Seth who claimed he may have killed his father, authorities said.
After placing the boy in custody, officers located Ramsey’s body in a bedroom with an undetermined wound to the upper torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene by county paramedics.
WPVI later reported the boy told police he shot his father with a crossbow.
According to the police affidavit, obtained by the station, Seth told police he skipped classes Tuesday at Lake Forest High School and stayed home.
“He said that his father was in the bedroom from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Seth said that he knew when his father came out he would be so mad he shot him,” the affidavit said.
The 17-year-old was charged with 1st degree murder and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony.
He was transported to Stevenson Detention House in Milford and is being held without bail.
