THE BRONX (PIX11) -- ‘Tis the season for giving -- and that’s exactly what’s happening in the Bronx.

More than 2.6 million New Yorkers have trouble buying food for themselves and their families every day, and that struggle doesn’t stop for the holidays.

Recent cuts to the nation’s food stamps program are being blamed for a “staggeringly” high need for emergency food at the city’s food banks.

Food Bank for New York City dishes out food to 1,000 charity partners from their 90,000-square-foot warehouse at 355 Food Center Drive in the Bronx, and feeds about 1.5 million New Yorkers in each of the five boroughs.

During the holiday season, the food bank sees a tremendous increase in demand of free meals per day.
