LOMA LINDA, Calif. (PIX11) — A father is seen singing to his dying son in a heartbreaking video.

Chris Picco sings “Blackbird” to his son, Lennon James Picco, in a video published on Youtube Wednesday. Lennon was delivered by an emergency C-section at 24 weeks old when his mother — and Chris’ wife — unexpectedly passed away in her sleep.

Ashley, 30, died Nov. 8. She is described as a “wife, mother, helper and dear friend” whose “life of service, like a melody, (was) pure and sweet,” a memorial page said.

Lennon was treated at Loma Linda University Hospital, where doctors were concerned about his lack of movement and brain activity. During Ashley’s pregnancy, she said Lennon would move whenever Chris played music. So the father asked if he could bring his guitar into the NICU and play for Lennon.

Chris played his guitar for several hours during the last days of Lennon’s life. The baby, who was expected Feb. 25, 2015 died Nov. 11. Lennon was “bathed in prayer, surrounded by family and friends,” a memorial page made in his and Ashley’s honor said.

A fundraiser has been set up for Chris to ensure he faces fewer financial challenges in the time to come.
