(PIX11) — On Thursday, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced plans to release Toy Story 4 on June 16, 2017.
The Toy Story franchise has made nearly $2 billion, Toy Story 3 making half that since its release in 2010.
“We love these characters so much; they are like family to us,” Lasseter said in a statement. “We don’t want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what’s gone before.”‘
Disney greats Andrew Stanton (director of Finding Nemo), Pete Docter (of Up) and Lee Unkrish (of Toy Story 3) got together to bring the fourth installment of Toy Story to life.
“But when Andrew, Pete, Lee and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie — and I wanted to direct it myself.”
The team also got help from actress Rashida Jones and her writer Will McCormack.
