MIDTOWN (PIX11) – A water main break flooded 33rd Street Tuesday, backing up commuters and causing enough damage to close the street for repairs.

The busy block between Fifth Avenue and Broadway backed up traffic after the street became partially-submerged in the morning following the break.

Department of Buildings, Con Ed and the FDNY responded to the scene.  Tuesday afternoon workers dug up the asphalt to make repairs.

33rd Street will remain closed to traffic until repairs are finished, officials say.
