So-called ‘toughest workout in NYC’ promises to shed calories, build superhero physique

NEW YORK (PIX11) – Crossfit, been there. Soul cycle, done that. Now a new workout trend being offered here in the Big Apple, is promising to deliver some super results.

Dubbed the toughest workout in town, “Grynd” offered at Epic Hybrid Training in Midtown promises to shed as many as 1200 calories in just one session.

Co-owner Alex Nicholas takes no prisoners and offers up a simple warning.

“The first session is definitely the hardest – it’s a shot to the system,” he told PIX11 News. “Some people don’t come back but the people who do get through it and enjoy it and understand the rewards from it, will come back.”

Mike Salmon, an Epic member for the past 2 years, recalls his first session wasn’t pretty.

“I would say I felt like I was in an American League Warrior episode,” he said. “Yeah definitely and I failed quite a bit.”

Every session kicks off with a quick warm-up of 80 burpees. Yes, 80 burpees.

When it finally starts, Grynd hits participants like a ton of bricks with 3-rounds of circuit-type training where pairs of two spend 90 seconds at each station.

Stations include kettle bell thrusts, squats, pull ups, running in place with a sandbag, a power wheel routine and monkey bars.
Oh yes and more burpees.

While it hasn’t proven to be fatal yet, Grynd puts your endurance to the test. Fainting and vomiting appears to be a typical thing for first-timers.
It goes without saying, a balanced diet as well as getting the all-clear from your physician is recommended before taking on Grynd or any other high-intensity workout.

Superhero bod – here you come.

    wow looks like a but kicker!! im hitting the gym twice a week and swimming 3 -4 times a week, to help me lose weight. Ive lost 37 lbs so far dping the ethosien diet. I think im a ways of this workout, although i would love to try it . Can only do your best
