SHEEPSHEAD BAY, Brooklyn (PIX11) -- Police shot and killed a knife-wielding man during a domestic dispute in Brooklyn Friday night.

Police were called to Avenue Y and East 26th Street in Sheepshead Bay around 5:35 p.m. when the victim, 54, informed them that her son had choked her and fled the scene.

After the officers prepared a report and left, the victim called 911 again around 7:12 p.m. to report that her son had returned home and was armed with several knives. The same officers returned to the residence and were led to the back of the house by the victim when they found her son in the living room armed with the knives.

When the suspect saw the officers, he allegedly advanced toward them while brandishing the knives. The officers backed away while telling him to drop the knife, but the suspect did not comply and lunged at them.

One of the officers then fired his gun one time and struck the victim in the chest.

The suspect was taken to Coney Island hospital and pronounced dead on arrival. He was identified as Denis Volchkin of 2466 E. 26th St. in Brooklyn.

The officers were taken to Lutheran Hospital to treat tinnitus, or ringing in the ears.

Four knives were recovered from the scene.
