KYRGYZSTAN (PIX11) — Doctors recently removed a 9 pound hairball from a teenage girl’s stomach that almost killed her.

Ayperi Alekseeva, 18, was suffering from severe undernourishment after being unable to properly eat of drink for months.

The teen from Kyrgyzstan was rushed into emergency surgery in Bishkek to remove a giant mass in her stomach.

Professor Bahadir Bebezov, senior professor of surgery at Bishkek hospital told The Telegraph “her stomach was so badly swollen from hair and bits of wool from the carpet that it literally just oozed out soon as the wall of the stomach was cut.”

The 9 lbs. mass had accumulated after years of eating hair from carpets.

The hairball, or clinically, “trichobezoar” is often caused by “trichophagia”, compulsive eating of hair pulled out (a separate condition called “trichotillomania”)
