WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) – Republican Rob Astorino has released a TV ad that mimics a 1964 spot to attack Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

It opens with a child counting daisy petals and a countdown. After an explosion, a nuclear-bomb cloud morphs into Cuomo’s face.

The ad alleges that Cuomo is under investigation for obstruction of justice and witness tampering.

A voice says, “Do we re-elect a governor who may end up in jail?”

Astorino said at a news conference Monday that the nuclear cloud illustrates “a cloud of corruption.”

Federal prosecutors are investigating whether Cuomo meddled with an anti-corruption commission. He has denied wrongdoing.

Cuomo’s campaign noted that Astorino also is involved in a federal investigation involving housing desegregation.

The so-called “daisy girl” ad helped Lyndon Johnson defeat Barry Goldwater in 1964.

WOW what an absolute IDIOT this man is. You know, when Johnson ran this ad, he was making a relevant point – about Goldwater and the threat of nuclear war. Astorino’s ad makes no sense at all. Question: Is there any chance Rob is a plant, picked by Cuomo to throw the race? (Wouldn’t that be a fitting smack in the face the the state GOP?) Because he couldn’t be running a worse campaign.
