Drunk narcotics officer charged in UWS shooting that injured 2

NEW YORK (PIX11) -- An off-duty New York State narcotics officer has been charged following a shooting in the Upper West Side Friday night that injured two bystanders.

Police responded to reports of shots fired on West 82th Street and Amsterdam around 9:05 p.m.

The officer was drunk at the time of his arrest, according to the NYPD.

A 31-year-old female victim was shot in the ankle, and a 42-year-old male was shot in the calf. Both were transported to St. Luke's Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The officer, Victor Zambrano, was charged with criminal possession of weapon, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment and two counts of assault.

Police are investigating whether the shooting was accidental.
