THE BRONX (PIX11) — Police are searching for a man who had his gun taken from him and was chased by a shopper who tried to stop him after he robbed a Bronx clothing store last week.

The masked man entered Black Era in Melrose about 10 a.m. Aug. 15 and pulled out a gun, demanding that the store owner fill a backpack with cash, police said Thursday night.

The owner put $100 into the bag, but snatched the gun from the robber's hand after the thief demanded a pair of sneakers and the store's alarm went off.

The robber then took off the mask and fled the store, chased by a witness who ultimately couldn't catch him.

Police released surveillance video of the man running from the store with the bag full of cash.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
