AKRON, Ohio (PIX11) — An Ohio teen was arrested Thursday after a video allegedly showing him cruelly kicking a cat went viral.

Tre’Vonte Mitchell, 18, admitted to police and Humane Society officials that he did in fact kick the cat he spotted walking down a residential block in Akron earlier this month, News Net 5 reports.

After the video was posted on a friend of Mitchell’s Facebook page, outraged animal lovers sent it to the Ohio Animal Abuser List Facebook page.

In the video, a man behind the camera can be heard telling Mitchell, “You can do it now,” before Mitchell launches the cat into the air with his foot.

After being kicked by Mitchell, the cat lands on its feet and runs away. The two men laugh hysterically.

Police tracked Mitchell down from the video and charged him with first-degree cruelty to a companion animal, a misdemeanor.

Mitchell allegedly told investigators he “deeply regretted” kicking the cat and he doesn’t know why he did it.

Although the charges could land him behind bars for six months, Police Captain Danial Zampelli told the station he expects Mitchell will not go to jail but will instead pay a fine and have to do community service.
