NEW YORK (AP) - The family of a 6-year-old boy stabbed to death in a Brooklyn elevator has notified the city that it is planning a $281 million lawsuit.

The Daily News reports the family of Prince Joshua "P.J." Avitto filed a notice of claim on Wednesday.

They say there is insufficient security at the Boulevard Houses in East New York.

The city's Law Department calls the case "very tragic" and says it will review the allegations.

The city says it's on track to install cameras at its facilities by year's end. It says it has already completed work at seven locations - including the Boulevard Houses.

Daniel St. Hubert has pleaded not guilty in the June 1 attack.

P.J.'s friend, 7-year-old Mikayla Capers, was stabbed 16 times but survived.

Other people get arrested for not taking care of their children. These people expect to get millions for it. We lived in a nice neighborhood, and I was walked to school for protection.

I hope I don’t sound heartless and mean but it is not the city’s fault for what happened. No parent should allow their underage children to go into any building, staircase or elevator alone. I see too many kids under the age of ten running around the neighborhoods, in and out of buildings and I’m just wondering where are the parents??? It’s our job to protect our children. I’m sorry but they won’t win that case. It’s a tragedy what happened to those babies. We parents need to do better

It is very tragic what happened to those children, and the only way it will never occurr again is to instruct our children to be in the presences of an adult when they get into an elevator or staircase. The adult to be someone they know and trust. As for the law suit ,whatever happens it won’t bring that little boy back.their parents should’ve taken better care of them and the tragedy may have not occurred or maybe it could’ve been worse, the parents could’ve been attacked as well. They are so many mentally disabled people who feel the need to hurt anyone, Especially children and the Elderly and Pregnant women as well, They are truly sick people.
