(PIX11) -- Congratulations to Becky Hammon on making history. She is the first full-time paid coach in the NBA.

Hammon will join the Spurs coaching staff as an assistant coach to Gregg Popovich. She will join Popovich on scouting, game-planning and the day-to-day grind of practice. Becky is currently in her 16th WNBA season, but will soon retire. She's a 6-time all-star who started her career with the New York Liberty.

"Nothing in my life has really ever been easy. I've always been someone who did it uphill," Hammon said, according to espn.com. "I'm up for challenges. I'm up for being outside the box, making tough decisions and challenges. ... And I'm a little bit of an adrenaline junkie. Throw those all in there and this was the perfect challenge and opportunity."
