MIDWOOD, Brooklyn (PIX11) -- An entire Brooklyn apartment building had to be evacuated after cracks were discovered in one of the building's walls.
The six-story building on Kings Highway in Midwood is adjacent to a building currently under construction.
Officials say one of the rear walls has bowed and horizontal and vertical cracks were forming along a line of apartments.
Residents of all 47 apartments were safely evacuated, and the Red Cross is responding to help.
Currently, 13 adults and three children have been registered with the Red Cross.
"This is a shock to people," said Jamie Dierking with American Red Cross. "You don't expect to come home and find this."
The vacate order remains in effect until fill operations are completed, according to the Department of Buildings, except for residents for 12 apartments near where the cracks were forming.
Frank Ritacco said he was considering sleeping in his car.
Three violations have been issued against Bohemia Concrete Corp for failing to protect adjoning structures, failure to provide protection at sides of excavation and failure to safeguard all persons and property.
