BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (PIX11) — An Alabama man claims he woke up from surgery with his penis amputated after going to a hospital for a routine circumcision.

According to a malpractice lawsuit filed Tuesday, the man, who had been treated for an unnamed condition at a urology center, went to the Princeton Baptist Medical Center for the procedure.

“When the plaintiff …woke from his aforesaid surgical procedure, his penis was amputated,” the lawsuit states.

The man never received an explanation as to why his penis was amputated and the doctors performing the procedure didn’t ask for assistance when the surgery became complicated, according to the suit.

The man says he has suffered extended pain while recovering and in turn has spent more money on hospital bills.

The hospital said they do not comment on pending litigation.

It is unclear how much in damages the man is seeking.
