(PIX11) — The heartbroken father of a teen girl killed aboard Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 wrote an emotional open letter to Russia President Vladimir Putin that has garnered nearly 4,000 shares by Tuesday afternoon.
Elsemiek de Borst was just 17 years old when she, her younger brother, mom and stepfather along with 291 other people were killed in a fiery plane crash, her father said.
U.S. officials determined that the passenger jet carrying de Borst and her family to their vacation spot was shot down July 17 using a surface-to-air missile near the town of Torez in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine, where pro-Russian rebels have anchored themselves.
The teen’s father posted an emotional open letter, tinged with sarcasm, on his Facebook page, painting a personal picture of a soul lost in the crash that took the lives of children, women and men from several countries.
A successful student, de Borst was on track to take her final exams next year and planned to go on to a university to study engineering.
“But suddenly she is not here anymore! She has been shot out of the sky, in an unknown country, where there is a war going on!” Hans de Borst wrote in a message addressed to “mister Putin, leaders of the separatists or the Ukraine government.”
“Aforementioned misters, I hope you’re proud to have shot her, amongst other, young life and future.
And that you will be able to look at yourself in the mirror tomorrow morning.”
He signed it, “Elsemieks (sic) father … whose life is ruined.”
In a post-script, de Borst called on Putin to guard the crash site and the evidence that sits there, which has been the target of looters.
Below is the complete message, in its English iteration, written by Hans de Borst:
Thank you very much mister Putin, leaders of the separatists or the Ukraine government!
For murdering my loved and only child, Elsemiek de Borst!
She was 17 years old, 5th “gymnasium” student at the “Segbroek College” in Den Haag.
And she was on her way to her holiday in Maleisië together with her little brother, her mom (my ex-wife) and her stepfather.
Elsemiek would have done her final school exams next year, together with her best friend Julia and Marina, she did so good in school!
After that she wanted to go to the “Technical University Delft” to study engineering, she was looking forward to it!
But suddenly she is not here anymore! She has been shot out of the sky, in an unknown country, where there is a war going on!
Aforementioned misters, I hope you’re proud to have shot her, amongst other, young life and future.
And that you will be able to look at yourself in the mirror tomorrow morning.
I hope you will receive this message, maybe translated in English (what you as a intelligent gentleman could read just fine)
Regards, Elsemieks father Hans de Borst from Monster, The Netherlands, whose life is ruined!!
PS mister Putin, I hope that your intense conversation with our prime-minster Rutte opened your eyes!
I know you are impressed by this and I would find it impressive if you took the initiative to guard the crash-sight with the Russian military, so the Dutch investigators can do their job.
Thanks in advance.
