NEW YORK (PIX11) -- When we first met John Maldonado, his singing chops were confined to the stairwells and hallways of the Harlem building where he works as a janitor.

Then it was YouTube that set them free.

“The dream is to be a singer – and to have the people whose songs I sing to sing my songs,” he told PIX11 News in early June.

“I enjoy my gift, I enjoy singing. I give thanks to God and I’m gonna continue singing no matter where I am or what happens.

After first appearing on the PIX11 News at 5, Maldonado – who made it his goal to turn in his “mop for a mic” – made headlines across the world.

From London’s Daily Mail to ABC’s “The View,” the singing janitor was making his rounds. John Maldonado was “undiscovered” no more.

He recently returned to PIX11 for an encore, updating us on everything that has happened in the past month.

Maldonado said his over-night fame hasn’t gone to his head, as he’s still working as a janitor in Harlem but working harder to land his big break.
