STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut lawyer says his client was defending himself when he was caught on video spraying gunfire into a crowd outside a nightclub, injuring five people.

The lawyer for 22-year-old Dayron Wills said Monday that the cellphone recording caught only one angle of the shooting outside Tino’s Nightclub in Stamford early Sunday. Darnell Crosland says the video doesn’t show Wills being threatened by other people with weapons.

None of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries.

Wills was arraigned on assault and other charges Monday in Stamford. He remains detained on $1 million bail.

Crosland says Wills will plead not guilty and argue for reduced bail at his next court appearance on July 28. He says Wills may have been mistaken for another person by those who threatened him.
