EAST FLATBUSH, Brooklyn (PIX11) -- A luxury car collided with a garbage truck in Brooklyn early Wednesday, killing one of the passengers of the BMW, police said.

Three people were inside the BMW when it collided with a private sanitation truck traveling north on Utica Avenue.

While the truck was making a left turn onto Avenue D, the BMW slammed into it from behind, police said.

Three people were traveling into the black luxury sedan.

Passenger Marquis Willis, 22, of Brooklyn, died from injuries he suffered in the collision. Another passenger was in critical condition.

The 26-year-old driver, Garfield Gwood, was taken to a hospital, listed in stable condition and taken into police custody, NYPD said.

Gwood has since been charged with DWI.

Aerial footage showed the crash's violent aftermath. The black BMW sat gnarled in the East Flatbush intersection, surrounded by debris.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
