(PIX11) — June is National smile month! Milly Almodovar from Cosmopolitan for Latinas showed PIX11 how we can brighten and whiten our smiles with a few tried and true products.

Colgate Optic White Toothbrush & Whitening Pen  ($12.99) –If you have to have three cups of coffee, lots of red wine and spaghetti all the time, it’s a good idea for you to always keep this Whitening Pen in your bag. After eating, swipe pen on your teeth, and go. It will stop any stains from forming. The pen contains small amounts of hydrogen peroxide to keep teeth white.

Eat Crunchy Fruits — We mean things like apples, pears, and cucumbers. Any crunchy food helps build saliva, and saliva actually helps to keep the teeth whiter. Apples work especially well because they act like a toothbrush, and knock the bacteria out your mouth as you bite into them.

DIY Oil Pulling — A huge trend right now (Gwyneth Paltrow is a fan) of teeth whitening is called ‘oil pulling’. You swish coconut oil in your mouth and gargle with it for 5 minutes. Many dentist actually say this works because it stops bacteria from forming on your teeth, and keeps them whiter.

Hot Straws ($9.99 for 4) — Coffee and tea can stain your teeth if you drink them directly from a cup.  Hot Straws are the only plastic straw for hot drinks on the market that doesn’t break down or leach chemicals when immersed in hot beverages.  They are reusable, safe and can be used in any to-go coffee cup.

For faster results … we live in a fast world. Online dating sites and apps like Tinder are HUGE.  Sometimes people are meeting within minutes of connecting online. When Match.com did their annual singles survey recently, they found men were most attracted to nice teeth. So it’s important to get quick results.

Crest White 3D Whitestrips 1 hour express ($54.99) — Contains 10% hydrogen peroxide (which is the most hydrogen peroxide that can be given over the counter). This product can whiten teeth up to two shades in one hour.

Pearl Briliant White Ionic Teeth Whitening System ($119.99)This is a bit pricier, but the results are super quick. This is the first whitening device in over 10 years to be approved by the FDA. You use it for five minutes twice a day for 10 days, but they say the first five minutes you use it, you can go up to three shades whiter. It’s the only device on the market to use micro current to activate the whitening gel. Up to 10 shades whiter in 50 minutes.

Zero White Teeth Whitening System ($199.99) –not everyone can do hydrogen peroxide. If you’ve got sensitive teeth, try this. Its main ingredients are baking soda and pomegranate extract which whiten teeth naturally. You use it 20 minutes daily Safe to use for 7 to fourteen days. Up to 8 shades whiter.

You can also use makeup tricks for teeth whitening … you can also fake it to make your teeth look whiter with self tanners and bronzers. These products can really make your teeth look as white as possible.

St. Tropez Self Tanning Bronzing Mousse Instant ($42.00 for pack of 2) — You’ll see results within one hour. This truly will make you look as if you’ve been in the sun all day. Plus, you can use it while also using any of the other whiteners to keep those teeth looking super white.

Blue-red lipsticks — make teeth look up to four shades whiter. The blue in the lipstick will counteract the yellow in your teeth. Contrary to popular belief, anyone can wear a blue-red lippy. Here are some of our favorites:

  • Mac Ruby Woo Retro Matte Blue Red ($16.00)
  • Makeup Forever Rouge Intense #8 ($20.00)
  • Maybelline Colorsensational On Fire Red ($7.49)

But if a bold lip isn’t your thing, try a lip gloss that has silver sparkle. It makes teeth look brighter.

  • Motives Cosmetics Passion Lip Shine ($17.95)

Wow! Really interesting and unusual tips. I have heard of the oil pulling and have been anxious to try it (just don’t know how long I could keep that stuff swooshing around in my mouth). Another option is to do the custom made dental trays (based on a dental impression of your teeth). I use ZOOM! NiteWhite gel. It’s a safe 22% medium strength gel made by Phillips brand. Good stuff. You can get the teeth whitening kit online & take your own molds of your teeth to get your custom fitted trays at http://sentinelmouthguards.com. I can’t tolerate any other kind of trays in my mouth. They have to be custom made or I just can’t wear them. Hope this helps! Nice article.
