SEASIDE HEIGHTS, N.J. (PIX11) – Gratitude is typically the reaction most people give to someone who saves their life.
A New Jersey man is facing several charges after he allegedly punched a lifeguard in the jaw after coming to his rescue in Seaside Heights, according to police.
Two lifeguards went to rescue Ivan Rivera Saturday night after he was caught in a rip current with another man and was swept out to sea. Rivera, who was under the influence of alcohol, then became belligerent with the men trying to save him.
At the same time, Seaside Heights lifeguards were rescuing seven other swimmers.
Rivera was charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct and underage drinking, police said.
