NEW YORK (PIX11) — R&B artist and producer The-Dream was arrested in New York City Wednesday morning, for allegedly assaulting his pregnant ex-girlfriend last year.

The songwriter, whose real name is Terius Nash, turned himself in to authorities. Nash’s ex-girlfriend Lydia Nam has accused him of kicking and strangling her during an argument at the Plaza Hotel last April. Nam was eight months pregnant with Nash’s son at the time.

Prosecutors allege Nash threatened to kill Nam “like OJ Simpson killed Nicole Brown” if she spoke to anyone about the incident

Nam filed the report in November 2013.

After his arrest, representatives for 34-year-old Nash released a statement, that read, “Dream voluntarily surrendered to the Midtown North Precinct this morning in order to responsibly address the false allegations filed against him by Lydia Nam.”

The statement goes on to say, “He is innocent of the charges filed against him today, and we are confident that when this case is concluded and all the evidence has been reviewed, it will be clear that he is innocent.”

Nash has been charged with two counts of felony assault and strangulation.

The artist is also facing misdemeanor charges of reckless endangerment and child endangerment.

Nash has written songs for Beyoncé, Justin Bieber and Rihanna.
