Brush fire breaks out in New Jersey

EDISON, New Jersey (PIX11) — A brush fire is burning in New Jersey Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

Initial estimates sized the blaze at about 5 acres along Olympic Drive near Raritan Center, one of the largest business parks in the northeast, officials said.

Officials say the blaze began around 11 a.m., and was driven by strong winds.

It started around 11 a.m. on the north side of the Raritan River, according to officials, sending huge clouds of black smoke into the air.

Temperatures in the area of the fire were in the high 50s as crews battled the blaze. Wind gusts were forecast to reach 15 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Police say the fire started on the north side of the Raritan River.

As of Thursday afternoon, the blaze was mostly contained.

No injuries were reported.
