BRONX (PIX11) — Aurea Arias says her 20 year old brother Jose who lives upstate was just visiting her family for the day at her apartment on East 166th street in the Bronx when just after 6 p.m., the 4th floor landing he was standing on in her building gave way and collapsed, sending him and rubble down two flights.
He was taken to Lincoln Hospital and is being treated for minor injuries.
Other residents like Elsailys Batista says she was with her family in her apartment on the fourth floor when she heard the loud crash.
The five story building is filled with young children and families and was quickly evacuated by the fire department.
Another resident Isora Delacruz, clutching her shaken 2 month old puppy, says she wasn’t home at the time but when she arrived, firefighters had to rescue her four legged family member from her apartment on the fifth floor.
