Gateshead, ENGLAND (PIX11) — For the first time in her life, Joanne Milne is hearing sound after receiving a set of cochlear implants.

The 39-year-old woman was born deaf because of Usher syndrome, causing vision and hearing loss. She began to lose her sight in her late 20s.

About four weeks ago, Milne underwent surgery for cochlear implants at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

Just this week, Milne returned to the hospital to have the implants turned on.

Her friend, Tremayne Crossley, caught the whole thing on video as Milne heard for the first time.

Milne is now catching up on all of the music she missed out on, Yahoo reports.
