Ayana, a Brooklyn native, joins PIX11 from Connecticut affiliate WTIC.

NEW YORK (PIX11) — PIX11 News today announced the addition of Ayana Harry as a General Assignment Reporter for all PIX11 News broadcasts.  Harry, an Emmy® Award nominated journalist, joins PIX11 from WTIC in Hartford, Tribune Broadcasting’s FOX CT station, where she was the New Haven bureau reporter and fill-in anchor.

Harry, a Brooklyn native, will return home to New York and begin on air with PIX11 News this month.

While at FOX CT, Harry was one of the first reporters on the scene of the Sandy Hook School shooting, providing live reports from Newtown as events unfolded. She has been nominated twice for an Emmy® Award for her work on special projects for the station.

Before joining WTIC in 2011, Harry was a digital reporter and field producer for ABC News in New York/Northeast region where she covered major stories including; the Bernie Madoff case and Captain Sullenberger’s Miracle on the Hudson. Her work at ABC News also took her beyond the region for major breaking news stories; she contributed exclusive reports for the network from Haiti after the 2010 earthquake and from the Gulf Coast after the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

Prior to working as a digital journalist, Harry held several positions at ABC News including associate producer, production associate and desk assistant. She began her career in journalism with internships at WABC-TV’s “7 On Your Side” and with ABC’s “World News Tonight.”

“Ayana has been part of the Tribune family since 2011, when she joined FOX CT. Ayana is Brooklyn native and a talented, hard-hitting journalist focused on telling the stories of our community. I’m thrilled she is now part of the PIX11 News team and back on her home turf,” said Rich Graziano, President/General Manager, PIX11.

“Ayana’s skills covering both breaking news and features are a perfect complement to PIX11 News and we are excited to have her join our team as we continue to expand and grow our newscasts,” said Mark Effron, Vice President/News Director, PIX11.
“Returning home to work at PIX11, the station I grew up watching, is a dream come true and it is an honor to be part of the team, contributing to PIX11’s momentum,” said Harry.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Politics from Princeton University and is a graduate from the Chapin School in Manhattan.

#Ayanna Harry I always prefer to get my New York news from actual New Yorkers. They seems to have a better idea of the pulse of the New York area
