PIX11: THE station to watch for Super Bowl coverage — here’s why

NEW YORK, January 27, 2014 – PIX11, Tribune Broadcasting’s New York flagship station, will celebrate the Big Game with Super Kickoff Countdown, week-long special coverage (1/27-2/2) giving viewers inside access to the action on and off the gridiron as the region readies for game day.

Beginning Monday, PIX11 adds 11+ hours of specials and additional news coverage throughout the week with PIX11 Super Kickoff Countdown, presented by brightspot. The special coverage will feature reports from locations in New York and New Jersey, including: Times Square, Super Bowl© Boulevard, MetLife Stadium and the NFL compound.

Tamsen Fadal, Scott Stanford, Sukanya Krishnan, Kori Chambers, Marysol Castro and Dan Mannarino will anchor PIX11’s Super Kickoff Countdown, supported by the entire PIX11 news team.  PIX11 has dedicated a crew of 80 to Super Kickoff Countdown, with 25 on-air journalists and a team of social media reporters. PIX11 will also have the full resources of additional Tribune stations, including KDVR/Denver and KCPQ/Seattle, who will also be on-site.

PIX11’s team will be joined by special contributors: Giants linebacker Dhani Jones, 6-Time ProBowl wide receiver Terrell Owens, all-pro Champion Giants linebacker Carl Banks and talk show hosts Jerry Springer, Maury Povich and Steve Wilkos. Champion Giants punter Steve Weatherford will also join the coverage as a special guest.

A special hashtag, #PIX11Bowl has been created so viewers can follow all of the live Super Kickoff Countdown coverage.  Social content, including all reporting, photos, video, polls, maps, weather, traffic, tailgating tips, recipes and clips of the day will be posted to multiple #PIX11Bowl platforms including live blogs, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest, all of which will be aggregated at pix11.com/kickoff.

  • Each night, beginning Monday, January 27 running through Saturday, February 1, PIX11 News will air a 15-minute Super Kickoff Countdown special (10:45-11pm) highlighting the star-studded events in New York and New Jersey leading up to game day. 
  • On Friday, January 31, PIX11 will air two hour-long Super Kickoff Countdown specials, from 9-10pm and 11-12 midnight, giving fans inside access to all the events as the region readies for the Big Game. (PIX11 News at Ten will air at 10pm, between the two specials.)

The first hour (9-10 pm) will provide comprehensive coverage of the build-up to the game. The second hour (11pm -12 am) on location from the Novotel Hotel in Times Square, will focus on the celebrities and the celebrations in our area over game weekend. PIX11 will have live coverage of the red carpets and the biggest bashes, giving fans access without having to leave their couch.  Tamsen Fadal, Scott Stanford, Sukanya Krishnan, Kori Chambers, Marysol Castro and Dan Mannarino will anchor PIX11’s Super Kickoff Countdown, supported by the entire PIX11 news team.

  • On Saturday, February 1, PIX11’s Super Kickoff Countdown continues from 5-7am with Kirstin Cole and Craig Treadway anchoring with PIX11’s full team of reporters covering the region. As the threat of a weekend snow storm in the long range forecast continues to develop, Super Kickoff Countdown will keep viewers prepared.

On Sunday, February 2 PIX11’s Super Kickoff Countdown features expanded coverage from 8am – 2pm with PIX11 taking viewers behind-the-scenes as final preparations are made. Sukanya Krishnan and Kori Chambers will anchor on location from MetLife Stadium, along with Tamsen Fadal, Scott Stanford and Mr. G. Marysol Castro and Dan Mannarino will be live from the tailgate parties. From celebrity arrivals to the half-time show, PIX11 will have a look at the action both on and off the field on Super Sunday.
