SOUTH PLAINFIELD, New Jersey (PIX11) – A former South Plainfield police captain pleaded guilty Monday to child pornography charges Monday after he admitted he paid an underage girl to perform sex acts before a webcam.

Michael Grennier, 51, now faces between 15 and 30 years in prison and a $250,000 fine on charges of the production of child pornography.

In February, Grennier streamed video of the girl performing sex acts to his home computer while sending her directions via text message, according to U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman.

Grennier, a 25-year veteran who was once elected “Officer Of The Year” and was in the running for international honors after breaking up a worldwide hacking group, according to The Star-Ledger, was working at a private computer forensics firm when he was arrested.  Grennnier has been jailed since he was charged on Feb. 19 of this year.

According to an FBI investigation, one of the two victims in the case, a girl, told agents Grennier had paid her for years in exchange for nude pictures and video.  He had also allegedly organized webcam sex sessions between her and another minor at hotel rooms, which he watched live from his home.  Text messages revealed that he had promised the girl $175 worth of clothing in exchange.

Grennier will be sentenced March 27, 2014.
