BROOKLYN (PIX11) – There is outrage in Brooklyn Monday night over a hit-and-run that left a young man dead in the street. Police are on the hunt for the driver, while the victim’s family mourns his death.

“The last thing he said to me was spend your money while you have a chance because you only live once,” said Saul Cruz.

Elvis Batista-Francisco was a hero in his family. About a year ago, he came to New York City from the Dominican Republic. He worked around-the-clock to send money to care for his mom back home.

He was just 22 years old with a bright future ahead of him.

Now, a memorial on a cold Brooklyn street marks the place where Batista-Francisco’s life ended tragically.

“You need to turn this criminal in because we’re not going to stop,” pleaded Cruz.

Police were called to Arlington Avenue and Hyland Place in Brooklyn just before 3 a.m. on Saturday, according to authorities.

Officers found Batista-Francisco dead near his moped.  Police said surveillance video showed a dark blue Nissan Sedan fleeing the scene.

Saul Cruz said there will be no Christmas this year because his cousin was the light of their family.

“You hit a young innocent man, you  destroyed a family, there will be justice,” said Cruz.
