“A Time to Kill” was not only best-selling novelist John Grisham’s first book, it is also the first of his many thrillers to be adapted into a Broadway play.

Correspondent Lisa Mateo talked to playwright Rupert Holmes about the challenges he faced in bringing the book (also a hit movie) to the stage.

She also learned how life reflects drama from former Senator Fred Dalton Thompson, who plays Judge Noose.

“A Time to Kill” burst onto the bestseller lists in the early 1990s. The story of a young backwoods attorney who defends a black man in the killing of two men accused of raping his ten year-old daughter also was made into a hit film starring Matthew McConaughey, Samuel Jackson and Sandra Bullock.
