NEWARK, N.J. (PIX11) –– New York radio personality and DJ Dave Herman was arrested Thursday after allegedly trying to bring a 7-year-old girl to the U.S. Virgin Islands for sex, according to U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman.
Federal agents arrested Herman, 77, at the St. Croix airport where he thought he was going to greet the young girl, according to a criminal complaint.
The case dates back to November 2012 when Herman began an online relationship with an undercover officer from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office he believed was actually a 36-year-old single mother and her young daughter.
He’s accused of trying to set up dates in New Jersey and New York to have sex with the woman’s child, even offering to fly them out to St. Croix and buying them airline tickets for a flight out of LaGuardia Airport.
Herman, who was a well-known rock DJ for New York’s WNEW-FM/102.7, faces 10 years to life in prison and a maximum $250,000 fine. He is charged with attempting to transport a minor in interstate commerce with the intent to engage in illegal sex.
Herman, who has homes in Airmont, N.Y., and St. Croix, is due back in court Friday.
