NEW YORK (PIX11) - A man from Gun Barrel City, TX, was arrested at LaGuardia Airport Thursday after he was caught trying to bring a handgun through a TSA checkpoint.
The man, who has not been identified, will face a “local weapons charge” after a TSA officer spotted the loaded .22 caliber Barringer revolver in his carry-on bag as it went through an X-ray machine, according to the TSA.
The officer who spotted it called Port Authority police; a PAPD officer removed the gun from the man’s bag and placed him under arrest.
New York, which has some of the tightest gun laws in the nation, only allows qualified gun owners to transport guns unloaded, packed separately and inside a checked bag. The owner must also declare the weapon to the airline.
Despite the strict gun laws, several firearms are found in passenger carry-on bags every month, according to TSA official Kevin J. Dowling,
