Hempstead, LONG ISLAND (PIX11)– The Long Island police officer who shot and killed Hofstra University student Andrea Rebello is getting death threats via Twitter.

On May 17th Nikolas Budimlic accidentally shot Rebello during an off-campus hostage stand-off with ex-convict Dalton Smith. Monday night Twitter user @JohnnySmith2 posted a series of threatening tweets aimed at the officer.

Among the tweets was one that said that he wished the officer was “dead from guilt.” Another one said he wished Budimlic was taken hostage and shot eight times by a fellow police officer.

The Twitter user could be charged with threatening a police officer.
Budimlic was transferred to the Department of Homeland Security task force after the shooting.
