BROWNSVILLE, Brooklyn (PIX11) –  A Brooklyn family is in shock Thursday after a young mother and her newborn baby were found dead.

The family of a deceased Brooklyn mother, 34-year-old Margarine Lyon, told PIX11 that it was the woman’s 6-year-old twins who tried to wake mommy up and couldn’t.  The two girls were trying to get to school.

That’s when they got help from their uncle, Lyon’s brother, who lived in the same building, but he couldn’t revive his sister.  “He realized that she was cold and that the baby was turning purple,” said the woman’s father, Douglas Lyons.

She was found, sources said, lying on top of her baby who died later at Brookdale Hospital — Preston Warren Alexander was just 11 days old.

“She had a c-section and was complaining of the pain and had a fever so they gave her some Oxycodone (to) subside the pain,” said Lyons.  “He was his mom’s whole life.”

There was a constant stream of tears for this grieving family in Brownsville Brooklyn as relatives, friends and community members consoled each other Thursday afternoon.

Lyons said his daughter had a bright future. She was studying to work in law enforcement.

“We throw this big baby shower.  I cook and everything for the baby shower everything was OK,” said the woman’s mother, Rosemarie Garrison.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of the deaths.
