The three men hit by a westbound New Jersey Transit Train in Dover, NJ. are believed to have been homeless One man was killed instantly and thrown into the Rockaway River. The two others were critically injured and were airlifted to Morristown Medical Center. The victims were not immediately identified, but were said to be in their thirties.
Police were investigating to determine if two other people were with the men. They searched but found no one. It was unclear how the men got onto the tracks. The area is surrounded by a 15 foot fence and is inaccessible. The men were walking on the tracks when the train, out of Hoboken bound for Hacketstown, hit them. Thirty passengers aboard the train were not hurt.
Service between Dover and Mt Arlington on the Morris-Essex line was temporarily suspended.
