Police are investigating whether a burned menorah outside the Chabad Lubavitch of Kensington Wednesday was an accident or a possible bias crime.

The FDNY believes the fire could have started in the litter at the base of menorah and burned upward.

Police have increased security around houses of worship during the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah.

No injuries were reported as the building was being renovated and was vacant at the time of the fire.

Detectives have been canvassing the area and checking surveillance cameras.
