FLATBUSH, BROOKLYN (PIX11) – A three-year-old boy is fighting for his life after being shot in the head inside his Flatbush apartment early Saturday morning.
The little boy, who neighbors identify as Terrell, was struck by a bullet at about 3:30 a.m. as he slept in his crib inside his second floor apartment on East 21st street, authorities say.
Reports say a babysitter was watching Terrell and her boyfriend stopped by the apartment to visit.
Detectives that have been searching the premises have yet to find the gun. Police say it is unclear if the shooting came from inside or outside the apartment.
According to neighbors, little Terrell has had an extremely difficult life so far. Neighbors told PIX11 News that the child was born prematurely and was mauled by his mother’s pit bull just a few months ago.
Neighbor Tamara Dennis said, “He’s a sweet little boy. He’s three, but he looks like he’s a year old. He’s a beautiful kid. He didn’t deserve for something like this to happen to him.”
Terrell remains in critical but stable condition at King’s County Medical Center.
The boyfriend of the babysitter is currently being questioned at the 70th precinct, authorities say.
No charges have been filed.
