Traffic snarled on Saturday on the Queensboro Bridge

(PIX11) – The Queensboro Bridge is open for business.

NYC Department of Transportation crews worked Saturday to repair a section of the Queensboro Bridge damaged after a the engine of a semi truck caught fire Friday before lunch. Inspectors say s section of support beam for the upper deck was damaged.

Around 11 p.m. on Saturday night, the NYC Department of Transportation announced via it’s twitter page that the bridge was open.

Traffic restrictions are in place on the bridge were expected to last through Sunday.

Traffic crawled across the bridge on Friday and Saturday as work was being done. Half of the bridge was open after the fire.

Charlie Rojas of Queens was walking across the Queensboro Bridge moments after the truck caught fire. He recorded video on his device and described the scene. “It was like I was hypnotized,” he says.

3 men inside the truck noticed smoke from the engine and got out of the vehicle as it caught fire Friday morning. It was carrying plastic and wire hangers. No one was hurt. FDNY says there is nothing suspicious or criminal to report about the fire.
