(PIX11) – 20-year-old Megan Marotte has not been seen or heard from since August 4 when she mysteriously disappeared on Staten Island.

Then on Thursday night — the same night crews searched for her — three women called 9-1-1 when they smelled something suspicious in Willowbrook Park.

Police searched and made a gruesome find: a woman in her 20’s, dead in the woods.

People feared the worst since Marotte went missing.

There have been search parties for her, posters plastered throughout the island, everyone holding out hope that she’d be found alive.

“My faith teaches me that these are things that we’re going to see, that are going to happen and so there’s a part of me that is relived because at least I know that we did the right thing,” said one of the woman who alerted police.

The investigation has turned this neighborhood near Morani Street and Victory Boulevard upside down, leaving residents with questions about what happened in their woods.
