In this report from June 1976, Channel 11 Action News reporter Bill Littauer reports on a crackdown on massage parlors in midtown Manhattan.

Littauer revisits places that had been raided days earlier, and finds that they’re back in business. Those shops include The Intimate Room at 701 Seventh Ave. and the Garden of Eden at 206 E. 52nd St.

This piece is teeming with images of the grittier side of New York that has largely disappeared. It also gives insights into how sex shops had spread into the East Side of Manhattan, and were not just confined to Times Square.

Here’s a New York Times article on the case from 1976.
