Bronx teacher accused of raping 10-year-old due in court
NEW YORK (PIX11) — Disgraced Bronx teacher Anthony Criscuolo is due in court Monday to answer charges that he raped a 10-year-old student.
Criscuolo is charged with first-degree rape and predatory sexual assault against a child. He is being held on bail of $500,000.
40-year-old Criscuolo was a special education teacher at PS 386 in the Bronx and had a clean record until his arrest just last week.
According to authorities, Criscuolo was arrested after the 10-year-old girl’s mother discovered sexually explicit emails between her daughter and the teacher.
Criscuolo reportedly raped the student in his car after coaxing her parents into believing that he was escorting their daughter to an academic awards ceremony.
The teacher sent an email to the 10-year-old student, just a day after the alleged rape, containing an apology and a profession of his feelings for the girl. The Daily News reports that the email he sent said things such as, “I was too rough,” and “… How did it feel for you?”
The disturbing allegations has many, including the victim’s parents and community members outraged.
