Senator Chuck Schumer and Senator Bill Nelson of Florida are trying to make plastic guns illegal.

They say a Texas student’s recent invention of a working plastic gun — using a 3D printer — sends a signal that anyone can make them at home if they have the right materials.

The guns are fully operational and are not detectable by metal detectors.

The legislation not only would ban home-made 3D plastic guns but also extend a ban on any other undetectable firearm.
